MSCS @ TRI-STATE SPEEDWAY 9/19/09
8/7/2009- 25n Racing made its first trip to Gas City Speedway in an effort to gain seat time before the coming string of MSCS races. They had been in communication with Phil Poor, who wished to help Adam and Gene to their feet. Several Radical baseline setup changes left Adam unsure of what to expect from the car, but he kept an open mind going into hotlaps. He was soon reassured that the car indeed drove much better.
The rest of the night went by without major incident. Adam placed 6th in his heat race and 16th in the A-main. Phil put a great setup on the car, as Adam was hooked up for most of the night. Now that the car has a great setup, it is up to Adam to get seat time to learn how to get faster.
8/14/2009- With the success of the previous friday, it was decided that 25n Racing would again make an appearance at Gas City Speedway. Partly cloudy skies and a 0% chance of rain would lead to a good night of racing. Adam had a few problems with biking the car in hotlaps and getting the front end to bounce about, but had things figured out by the end of hotlaps. His heat race was a bit rough, however, as it was stacked with several of the fastest sprint drivers in attendance. Contact with the front stretch wall on the 2nd lap of Adam's heat forced him to retire to the pits to swap out the front end.
Adam started the B-main with the hopes of racing into the A. On the start, he fell back to 6th, but he found his way to the last transfer position by the end of the B.
Phil consulted Adam and Gene and proceeded to adjust the setup of the car for the A. A few minor changes were made, including the engagement of the anti-swaybar front end. Adam started the feature in 20th spot and ended up 17th. He was lapped on lap 16 by Shane Cottle and Cole Whitt, immediately after which the caution came out for a spin in turn 2. Adam restarted in his original position behind the first three lead cars. He was able to pull away with the leaders in the remaining laps, holding Jon Stanbrough at bay until the last 3 laps, where Adam missed his entry into turn 3. All in all, Adam learned a great deal from running with the leaders and will have a better idea of how to run the car next week.
NEXT EVENT: FRIDAY 8/21 GAS CITY I-69 SPEEDWAY
Every event that 25n Racing tried to compete in during the month of July was rained out. Hopefully the rest of the season will be much drier!
Adam and his Father await the next Midwest Sprint Car Series event. The last event attended was the June 27 race at Vermillion County Speedway in Danville, IL. Adam finished 7th in his heat race and 10th in the B-main. MSCS and POWRi had a race scheduled for July 4th at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN, but it was rained out with a constant rainfall saturating the area for most of the day. The MSCS/POWRi race has since been rescheduled for July 25th at Tri-State Speedway. Adam now sits in 6th place overall in MSCS points and 2nd in the MSCS rookie points.
NEXT RACE: July 25th at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN.
Friday night, Adam was in the hot seat for Hale Motorsports in the number 02 minisprint at Bakersfield Raceway Park in Linton, IN. He qualified 2nd, ran 2nd in his heat race, and finished 2nd in the A-main.
Saturday, Adam and 25n Racing made their way to Terre Haute for the 2nd attempt at running the Don Smith Classic. The race was originally scheduled for May 2nd, but was rained out and moved to June 13th. Heavy rains again invaded the area and the race was rescheduled for the next day, Sunday June 14th.
Sunday, 25n Racing returned to a waterlogged Action Track. They waited around untill the drivers' meeting at 1:00. Warming motors started over an hour later, with hot-laps starting 2 hours later than scheduled. The track was very rough throughout the night.
Adam drew the same pill two nights in a row, #98. He would be starting 9th in the 3rd heat race. He played it safe around some slow cars before passing them comming out of 2. He made it up to 7th.
The feature lineup had Adam starting on the outside 11th row. However, the lineup was not correct for the drop of the green flag, and Adam ended up starting the A-main in 25th position. He narrowly missed the flipping car of Ron Gerhart on the back stretch, along with several other flips and spins. Eventually he worked his way up to 9th position. A rut caught Adam comming out of 2 with only 3 laps to go; his car was pitched towards the infield, and he was forced to lift. 2 cars passed him in this time, putting him in 11th position. This is where he would finish his first ever race at the Terre Haute Action Track.
Terre Haute was Adam's 7th ever start in a sprint car. He managed to make it to 9th from 25th!
25n Racing will not be traveling on the weekend of the 19th. Their next event will be at Vermillion County Speedway with the Midwest Sprint Car Series on Saturday, June 27th!
Friday, June 5th:The Midwest Sprint Car Series made an appearance at Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, IL for the first time in 2009. MCS is a high-banked 1/4 mile track at the Morgan County Fairgrounds. Adam started 7th in the first heat race and worked his way up to 4th within a few laps. However, he spun while going through turns 3 and 4 and was hit by another car. Adam's crew was able to complete repairs to the car in time to start the A-main.
Adam started 16th in the A-main, out of 19 cars. He rode around in 15th or 16th for the first few laps, being patient and waiting for the oportunity to get up in the mix. Soon there was a red flag for Ricky Williams, who crashed in turn 1. He was ok and the race was resumed shortly thereafter. After the restart, Adam started to move up through the field. He made it to 13th before another red flag came out for a car flipping out of the track. This driver was also ok, and the race was restarted after a few minutes.
After the 2nd red, Adam was moved to the tail, behind several lapped cars, but still on the lead lap himself. He passed the 5 lapped cars and 3 additional cars to bring home his first top 10 finish in a sprint car, 8th place.
Saturday, June 6th: The KISS/MSCS matchup at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN: Adam was excited about this night because everyone got the same amount of points as long as they signed in and ran in hot laps. He was ready to try some different setup techniques on the car. In hot laps, Adam passed another car going into turn 1; however the other car made contact with Adam's tail tank and caused some minor damage. The tail tank and rear bumper were repaired before the heat races were even anounced.
Adam started on the 5th row, inside column. He would have to pass 4 cars to gain a transfer spot. A yellow flag for an incident on the front stretch seemed as though it would move him up to 5th, but a complete restart was called, and Adam restarted in his original position. He ran a smooth race and made it up to 6th, one spot away from a transfer.
Adam's crew put a new setup on the car for the B-main, where he would be starting on the pole. Adam jumped the first start; 3 subsequent starts were called back due to cars spinning out or stopping on the track. When the race finally got underway, Adam gained a 3/4 straightaway lead, running the cusion to build momentum. He knew that Jon Stanbrough was comming through the field, and anticipated being passed before the end. Jon finally passed Adam a few laps from the end; Adam fell right in line behind him so he could follow Mr. Stanbrough and hopefully learn a bit about his driving style. Unfortunately, Jon's right rear tire exploded at the end of the next straightaway, sending pieces of rubber and the wadded up right side nerf bar towards Adam. The nerf bar cut Adam's left front brake like, leaving him with no way to slow down other than letting off of the throttle. Before he knew it, he was sliding towards Jon. He made contact and destroyed his own right side nerf bar and bent several other parts on the car.
The crew of 25n Racing worked diligently to repair the car. Adam was the 2nd alternate for the A-main, so there was an extreme outside chance that he could run the A if two other cars broke before the drop of the green flag. Unfortunately, this oportunity never came as all 20 cars started the A.
After the pits were opened to the public, Adam signed several autographs and talked with many people. A few kids wanted to sit in his car, so Adam helped them in and showed them around. Several people stated that they were impressed with how far he had come since his first race at Bloomington Speedway earlier in the year. A few people even said they were going to go to Terre Haute the following week; Thus 25n Racing gains a handful of fans.
Next race: June 12th: Bakersfield Raceway Park in Linton, IN (Non-wing 600 minisprint)
June 13th: Terre Haute Action Track in Terre Haute, IN (MSCS Sprint Car)
Saturday, May 30 25n Racing made an appearance at VCS. This was Adams first time at the track and 5th time ever in the car. He was pretty quick in hotlaps as he felt out the track. In his heat race, he started 7th and ran out of laps, making it to 5th; top 4 transferred to the A-main. Adam's starting position for the B-main was 1st. He fell back to 6th by the end of the B-main; the car was too loose, despite having greatly tightened up the setup.
Adam gained valuable experience running around the cusion of the track, and valuable tuning for the MSCS race later in the year.
Shortly after changing out of his suit after the B-main, Adam and his father loaded the trailer. A downpour ensued, with the Features being called off.
Next event: MSCS June 5th at Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, IL
MSCS June 6th at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN
Scattered rain showers dampened the activities at Haubstadt Sunday afternoon. The races were called off around 3:30 local time, with several teams including 25n Racing already in line for the pit gates. No rain date has been set.
Next weekend lacks any MSCS sanctioned events. Adam may travel up to Vermilion County Speedway on Saturday, but concrete plans are yet to be set.
Next MSCS event: June 5th at Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, IL.
June 6th at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN.
Night 2 of MSCS competition had Adam competing at Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky. Upon arrivial to the track, everyone was graced by a heavy downpour that would have made any other track rain out. The shower lasted for about 20 minutes, after which several push trucks entered the track and began to run it back in. The drivers' meeting was pushed back a mere 30 minutes. 20 drivers were in attendance.
Adam started 3rd in the first heat race. He was jostled a bit on the start, but hung around in 5th. He raced with Brady Short for a few laps before Brady was able to move on. Adam ended up in 8th, lining him up for 15 in the A-Main.
On the start of the A, another car made contact with Adam's right front, causing it to go flat. Incidently, another car flipped at the same time, allowing Adam to change the tire. Brad and Aj of Benic Enterprises and Mark Cummins and crew from Cummins Racing wasted no time in removing the flat tire, while Gene, Adam's Father, returned with a new right front and an impact wrench. In no time Adam was lined back up in 19th position.
Over the course of the feature, Adam passed several cars. He ended up in 13th position, just shy of being lapped. Not bad for his first A-main with the MSCS!
Next week: Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN.
Special Thanks to Benic Enterprises and Cummins Racing for their help in getting Adam back on track!
The first race of the MSCS has been completed. Adam was in the company of 35 other cars, among which were Levi Jones, Jeff Bland Jr, and Bryan Clauson. He drew the #1 pill, meaning he was to start on the pole for the first heat.
Heat #1 contained a tough bunch of cars, all of which had many years of experience. Adam fell back to 6th place, then back to 7th after another car made contact with him while going through turn 4.
The B-main had Adam starting in 9th place, inside 5th row. He stayed with the pack through the first 7 laps and began moving up to 5th. Another car spun Adam in turn 2, which put him to the tail in 17th place. After the restart, he began running the top of the track and picked up 7 spots in the remaining 5 laps to bring home 10th.
Next week: Florence Speedway in Union, KY.
The first two nights for Adam were overall successful, as he stayed upright and did not tear up too much equipment. On his first night at Bloomington Speedway, he ran 7th in his heat and 11th in his B-Main. A minor encounter with another car's left rear ended Adam's night with a broken front end.
On the second night at Bloomington, Adam had some setup assistance and a little more confidence. He qualified 41st, finished 7th in his heat, ran 5th in the C, and picked up a few spots in the B to finish 15th. The presence of several USAC drivers was influentual to Adam as he watched their driving styles throughout the night.
The opening Midwest Sprint Car Series race at Terre Haute Action Track is rained out and rescheduled for June 13th, in conjunction with Modifieds and the SCORA steel block sprint car series. Adam's next race will be May 9th at Tri-state Speedway in Haubstadt, IN.
Tonight marks the beginning of Adam's sprint car career. Hot laps will start at 6:30.
The opening night for Bloomington Speedway has been moved to next friday due to heavy rains.
The crew of 25n Racing has exhibited excelent work ethic and persistence over the past few weeks, succeeding in readying their new sprint car for 2009 competition. They look forward to Adam's debut with the April 17 date at Bloomington Speedway next friday.
April 10 draws near as Adam and the crew of 25n Racing put the finishing touches on their new 2009 Maxim/Claxton non-wing sprint for MSCS competition.
